The North Sea's bird cliffs

The rich marine fauna of the North Sea offers excellent opportunities to a number of sea birds. They nest in large colonies on steep cliffs and rocks.

The guillemots lay their eggs directly on the ledge of the steep cliffs, whereas the kittiwakes build a simple nest of seaweed. The gannet colonies are placed on plain rock, where the nests lie tight.
